Greetings from Isla Saona! We went sailing on our boat last weekend.
Oh, right. We don’t have a boat. I was just messing around.
We went on a tour with many people, most of them tourists. They came from Brazil, Germany, Italy, US, and other countries.
The perfect weather awaited us. Spring recently began and the heat is the perfect excuse to go to the beach. It was our first time in Isla Saona. This island is located in the South of the Dominican Republic.
First stop: Parque Colón, Zona Colonial.
Yes, this was the starting point. We had to be there at 6:00 AM. It was lonely, but beautiful. I think the statue was also posing as ‘La Flecha’.

Second stop: Yina Bambu Shop
This stop is in La Romana. Almost everything is hand-made. You may find the perfect souvenirs.
This is the bathroom’s ceiling. They are pretty serious about the hand-made stuff.
The Mama Juana is a typical dominican drink that consists on a bottle filled with herbs and alcohol. You can buy the Mama Juana with and without rum.
These are Larimar, a rare blue variety of a mineral found only in the Dominican Republic.
Moving on, we saw mountains and rivers. This right here is Rio Chavón. FYI, some shots of Rambo, Jurassic Park and Anaconda were made here. But no, there are no anacondas here. There are no dinosaurs either, just in case 🙂
Third stop: Bayahíbe
A view of Parque Nacional del Este (National East Park).
The water became brighter as we got closer to the Natural Pools of the park.
The floor was filled with starfish.
This park is protected. You couldn’t hold the starfish more than 5 seconds out of the water.
Starfish are not fish. They have 5 arms, and if they lose one, they grow it back. Some starfish can regenerate an entirely new sea star from just one arm and a portion of the star’s central disc.
We finally arrived to Isla Saona.
Locals sell coconuts in Isla Saona.
Definitely: Made in Dominican Republic
Some hours later, we headed back to Bayahíbe in the Catamarán.
A Catamaran is a boat or ship with sails- or engine-powered. This one had both.
It even had solar cells.
Meanwhile, some people slept all the way.
Aquí se viene azul azul con este baile que es una bomba
Some were Gangnam-styling all the way.
Our group bought 2 Mama Juanas with our picture. It was a nice gift 🙂
